Identity Sphere
Genova, 2006
A stainless-steel sphere is perforated with the pattern
of the artists own genetic code, which is projected by a strong light
onto the visitors' bodies and is multiplied by the mirrors on the walls
- almost creating a galaxy of illuminated particles.
The genetic code of the artist is the theme of this installation.
The visitor gets the impression that he is entering a universe of illuminated
body cells. The viewer in his human individuality becomes part of the
installation; while the light inside the "identity sphere" projects
the identity of the artist onto the viewer and the mirrors. He sees his
image in the mirror being multiplicated on a molecular level, almost like
the millions of cells, which carry his genetic identity. This can also
produce a threatening impression in which the perhaps most intimate secrets
of the body are being illuminated - even if the code cannot be read by
everybody.
