Shipping Forecast
Frankfurt, 2004
Video
Gestures of a couple on a table in a lively fish restaurant can be observed.
The actual content of the conversation remains unknown - however one can
interpret or guess the course of a conversation by reading the gestural
code. The gesture of the hands, which in the beginning has a rather bored
harmonic rhythm, wins more and more dynamic and is developing into a forceful
movement in the air. The dynamic of an intermediate "mute" dialogue
is overlayed by the acoustic coded radio program of a shipping forecast,
which in a very dry tone is forecasting a storm in a calculated mathematical
sequence of numbers. From the chaos theory we know the thesis, that through
the movement of a butterfly wing (here perhaps the behaviour or gesture
of a human hand) a storm can be caused on the other end of the world.
