Trust III
Frankfurt, 2010
Trust is an installation of mirrored lenses,
which constitutes the Braille code in a visual form. Trust
in ones own perception is of special importance in my installations.
The flood of images in the media has changed our perception of images
and the trust in the truth of these images. These lenses,
which were originally supposed to sharpen our vision, have lost their
transparency through the silvering process. Even if they mirror our environment,
they can only reveal fragments of our surroundings.
A further development of this project is a video with images, taken by
the blind Parisian Laurance Jamet, which are being projected onto the
mirrored lenses. While a blind could Sense the words - a seeing person
is being questioned about his perception, through the Translation into
a new form of perception - new codes, new images are created. The original
perception (the smells or the sounds, which have inspired the blind photographer
to take the picture, can only be guessed at in the distorted reflection
on the wall.
